Samuel Sogin completed his Bachelors of Arts in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in May 2011. He is continuing his studies at UIUC pursuing a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a focus on railroad transportation. He has spent the last three years as a research assistant working on rail capacity analysis using RTC simulations to study the causes of train delay. He also has industry experience relevant to his research interests, working as a summer intern with CSX Transportation designing rail traffic simulation analyses. Since his internship, he has taken a lead role with rail capacity research at UIUC in collaboration with National Taiwan University and CSX. He is also actively involved with the UIUC AREMA student chapter and AREMA Committee 16.
